Terri Schiavo - the final week (?)

As we get closer to Terri Schiavo's murder, I have very little to add to the many insightful comments from many bloggers. I would direct you to two blogs in particular. Sherri has worked tirelessly to keep us all informed on the latest updates and to provide background on the husband and the whole sordid story. Check out her latest update.

Sue Bob (a Texas lawyer) has written about some questionable legal issues that are being overlooked in the state's rush to kill this woman, including (1) the lack of justification for her placement in a hospice and how this placement has benefited the husband and skewed the legal issues and (2) how feeding does not constitute medical intervention.

My own perspective relates to our civilization and its future. Civilization can survive illness and injury to its citizens. Civilization can survive even indignities and tragedies. But civilization cannot survive government sponsored euthanasia. Civilization can survive whatever caused Terri's condition much more easily than it can survive Terri's murder. Euthanasia affects the very core of our humanity and our values. We are corroding the very building blocks upon which we built this civilization in the first place. If you don't understand what I am saying, wait twenty years - you will understand then.
